About our canopy cleaning in Aston
We have been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we are fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. Typical jobs include heavy deposits behind the grease filters and condensation and grease dripping together, across wall canopies, grease gutters and plenum chambers.
For a kitchen in or near Aston, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a written report, dated and illustrated with photos, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

How the job changes from site to site
Wall canopies
Long wall canopies often have several filter banks. We work along the canopy section by section, with photos for each.
Pub and hotel kitchens
Staff in pub and hotel kitchens work under the canopy all day, so drips and smells soon become a daily nuisance. A thorough clean puts that right.
What affects the quote in Aston
A fixed price needs a few facts first. We look at:
- The size of the system
- Any permits to work or inductions
- How many systems or sites are involved
- Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.
Helping us quote
We can often survey from pictures. Try to include:
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- The site address and the type of premises
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- Problems your staff have spotted
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your photos and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before any work starts.
When something else is needed
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what canopy cleaning will not do:
- Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
- Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
- Filters that no longer seal in the housing
Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will tell you honestly.
Parts of the system we cover
- Grease gutters
- Plenum chambers
- Canopy light fittings
- Baffle filters
- Island canopies
- Wall canopies
What happens if it’s left?
Leaving the canopy until the next full clean can mean months of build-up. In a busy kitchen, the canopy and plenum can need attention between TR19 cleans, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. A planned visit to Aston is easier to arrange than an emergency callout.
A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. You’ll have a fixed price before any work starts.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.
Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. That is our job.
Your questions about canopy cleaning in Aston
Can a school canteen extract in Aston be done out of term time?
Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. Food Standards Agency records list about 17 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Aston. Tell us your holiday dates and we will book the visit for when the site is empty.
Who inspects food businesses in Aston?
Food hygiene inspections in Aston are carried out by East Hertfordshire council. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.
What types of premises do you cover?
All kinds of commercial and public premises: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. Work is timed around how each site runs.
Why is my canopy dripping grease?
Most drips come from overflowing troughs, damaged filters or a plenum thick with grease. We clean the canopy, plenum and troughs and tell you what we find.
What does TR19 mean?
A BESA specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not law, but it’s the benchmark.
Who is responsible for fire safety on the premises?
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, it’s the responsible person: normally the employer or whoever controls the premises. Landlords, facilities managers and managing agents can also hold responsibility.
How much of the canopy do you clean?
All of it: the outer surfaces, the inner skin, the seams and the troughs. The plenum behind the filters is included, since that is where grease hides.
How much notice do you need?
Earlier is better, especially for out-of-hours work. We usually quote within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.
Between visits
How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Keep filters on a set cleaning routine
- Tell us when the canopy starts to drip
- Keep the fan on through service
- Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
Where the canopy is cleaned as part of a full TR19® Grease clean, a TR19 certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If the job covers only the canopy, the paperwork reflects that.
Run the extract for as long as anything is cooking. Turning the fan off early lets vapour settle on the hood.
How the visit works
At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and it goes on the report too. The visit takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. Seeing the system in photos first means the trip to Aston can be planned properly.
- We start by checking the canopy, filters and plenum.
- Equipment below is switched off and left to cool, then sheeted.
- We remove the grease filters and clean the plenum and filter housing.
- The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
- Clean filters are refitted and before and after photos go into your report.
Preparing for the visit
- Move anything stored near the system
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
Ask for a quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
