Canopy cleaning across Askett

Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Askett

We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we are fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you’re dealing with filters that clog soon after cleaning and a plenum thick with grease behind the filters, we can put it right.

In a small place like Askett, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. Each visit is written up with pictures, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. File it in your maintenance log so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

What happens if it’s left?

Leaving the canopy until the next full clean can mean months of build-up. In a busy kitchen, the canopy and plenum can need attention between TR19 cleans, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. If the system at a site near Askett fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

Askett questions

Can you get to a site in Askett?

Yes. Askett is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Askett in the summer holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. With about 4 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Askett, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.

Is canopy cleaning enough for TR19?

You can have the canopy cleaned on its own, but it will not cover the ductwork or fan. TR19 Grease covers everything the grease travels through, at intervals set by BESA guidance.

Do you clean the grease filters as part of a canopy clean?

The filters come out so the plenum behind them can be cleaned, and they’re cleaned before going back in. We’ll tell you if any need replacing.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

They’re marked on the report. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, which we can install.

What paperwork do I get after a canopy clean?

Before and after photos go into a report that lists what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach. Where the whole system is cleaned, you also get a TR19 certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Do we need to close while you work?

Not normally. Visits are timed for when the area is closed, such as overnight or at a weekend, so the site can carry on as normal.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes, of course. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we’ll suggest a schedule and quote for it.

For landlords and multi-site operators

If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.

What staff can safely do

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

Honest limits

Not every problem is solved by canopy cleaning, and we’ll tell you before we start. It doesn’t solve:

  • A dirty extract fan further along the system
  • A canopy undersized for the equipment
  • Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will tell you honestly before booking.

What the work covers

  • Grease gutters
  • Island canopies
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Wall canopies
  • Baffle filters
  • Plenum chambers

What happens on the day

A visit follows the same order every time: protect the area, isolate whatever needs isolating, carry out the canopy cleaning, tidy up and hand over the paperwork. On site, the work takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Askett before we set off.

  1. We start by checking the canopy and what’s behind its filters.
  2. Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
  3. Thick grease is scraped away before the canopy is degreased.
  4. Plenum, housing, troughs and canopy are all cleaned and checked.
  5. The canopy is signed off with before and after photos and a next clean date.

How to prepare

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool

Advice

Signs you need canopy cleaning in Askett

Grease does not build up any differently in Askett: it comes down to how long the kitchen cooks and what’s on the menu. High-heat cooking coats it fastest.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Condensation running down the canopy
  • Greasy streaks across the canopy
  • A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away
  • Overflowing grease troughs and gutters

Where a hall near Church of St Dunstan, or anywhere in Askett, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

What your quote should include

  • If they look at the system before pricing
  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
  • What paperwork you get at the end

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it helps at the next visit:

  • Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
  • Leave the extract running until cooking stops
  • Avoid harsh scourers that scratch the canopy
  • Keep every filter in place while cooking

File the report alongside your fire risk assessment, so it’s ready when an EHO, insurer or fire officer asks. Before and after pictures speak for themselves.

Clean filters are the canopy’s first defence. Keep them on a regular cleaning or exchange cycle, and never cook with one missing. The plenum behind them stays cleaner.

Kitchen extracts in Askett

The FSA’s data shows about 5 pubs and bars registered within about 1.5 miles of central Askett. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. In Askett, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Buckinghamshire council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Fire safety in Askett falls to Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

For kitchens close to Monks Risborough station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight. For schools such as Monks Risborough CofE Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
