How we handle canopy cleaning in Ashford
We have been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we are fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you have smoke hanging around the canopy during service and grease channels that no longer drain, we can help.
Most kitchens in a town like Ashford cannot close for a day, so cleans are booked after closing, early in the morning or on a quiet day. The kitchen is handed back clean and ready to cook.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

What we do, step by step
The first job on site is protection: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Let us know how to reach the roof or plant area at your site in Ashford, and where the van can go.
- First the canopy is surveyed, by photos or in person.
- Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
- We remove the grease filters and clean the plenum and filter housing.
- We degrease the canopy shell, its seams and the grease troughs.
- Clean filters are refitted and before and after pictures go into your report.
How to prepare
- Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
- Clear loose items from the work area
Get a fixed quote
There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To start, ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.
Advice
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.
Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with photos.
Leave it or put it right?
Getting the canopy cleaned in Ashford now saves a bigger job later. The work takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits, done while the kitchen is closed. Put off, the grease simply moves further into the system. Grease, dust and wear all build up with time.
You won’t find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, and we’ll talk you through it.

Part by part
Pub and hotel kitchens
Pub and hotel kitchens can cook from breakfast to late evening. That’s a lot of grease on the canopy, and canopy cleans between full cleans can help.
Wall canopies
A long wall canopy may hold several sections of filters. Each section’s plenum and housing is cleaned in turn, with photos for each.
What a clean won’t put right
Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:
- Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)
- Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
- A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that is a design question)
Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will tell you honestly before you book.
What the work covers
- Wall canopies
- Island canopies
- Grease gutters
- Baffle filters
- Plenum chambers
- Canopy light fittings
Kitchen extracts in Ashford
The FSA’s data shows about 8 bars, pubs and nightclubs registered in and around Ashford, up to about a mile and a half out. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Surrey Fire and Rescue Service covers Ashford. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. Environmental health officers from Spelthorne council inspect food businesses in Ashford. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.
Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Ashford Hospital is the nearest hospital to Ashford, about 0.7 miles north. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Spelthorne College, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. Where a hall near Parish Church of St Matthew, or anywhere in Ashford, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

What staff can safely do
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.

FAQs for Ashford
Do you clean school canteen extracts around Ashford out of term?
Yes, holiday work suits schools best. With about 19 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Ashford, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Just ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with your term dates and we will plan around them.
Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Ashford?
In Ashford, it’s Spelthorne council that carries out food hygiene inspections. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Do you clean canopies in all kinds of kitchens?
Wall canopies, island canopies and single hoods over individual appliances. Each one is cleaned inside and out, with the plenum behind the filters.
Is the inside of the hood cleaned?
Everything from the outer face to the plenum behind the filters. Troughs, gutters and filter housings are cleaned too.
What happens to the filters during the clean?
The filters are removed, cleaned and put back. Each filter is checked for fit as it goes back, because gaps let grease through.
Can you set up regular visits?
Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.
What’s TR19?
A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.
How long is a canopy clean?
A single canopy with a light build-up is fairly quick, while long canopies, several hoods or heavy deposits take more time. We will tell you what to expect.
Fixed quotes for canopy cleaning in Ashford
The survey tells us what the work involves. The main factors are:
- The condition we find in the survey
- Whether several sites go on one quote
- The scale of the work
- The times the site is available
One small site or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. You will have a fixed price before any work starts.
What to send for a quote
Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Send what you can of the following:
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- Any previous report or certificate
Quotes are quick. Send a few details and photos, and we usually reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
