About our AHU cleaning in Tarpots
An AHU clean is a thorough examination and treatment of the unit. We look inside each section, clean what we find and record it with photos, so the report shows exactly what was done. The work covers dampers and louvres, internal panels and supply and extract fans, and the jobs we see most are intake sections clogged with outdoor debris and drain trays holding standing water.
In rural areas, ventilation units are often in roof voids or outbuildings, which makes them easy to overlook.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

When to call us in Tarpots
An overdue filter loads up with dirt, which cuts the airflow and can let air slip round the filter. After that, the coils and fan collect what the filter should have caught.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Dust-coated heating and cooling coils
- Units that have only ever had filter changes
- Plant that needs cleaning after a refit
- Dust built up on fan impellers
Chartwell Private Hospital, about 3.8 miles east, is the nearest hospital to Tarpots, and healthcare sites of every size need their supply air kept clean.
Before booking anyone
- When the next visit should be, and why
- Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos
- If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
- What hours they’ll be on site
What affects the quote in Tarpots
The survey tells us what the work involves. We look at:
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- The condition of the system
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before any work starts.
What we need to know
Photos let us diagnose from a distance. Try to include:
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- A few general shots of the system
Want a quote for AHU cleaning? Please call 0345 646 2711 or email us and tell us about the site. We will explain what we’d do and send a fixed quote before anything is booked.
What AHU cleaning cannot fix
We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so these are the things it will not cover:
- Faulty motors, drives or bearings
- Airflow problems caused by the system’s design
- Damaged coils beyond cleaning
If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will say what we think.

How the visit works
We are used to working while the site is closed. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes one overnight shift for many single units, with bigger plant phased. Seeing the system in pictures first means the trip to Tarpots can be planned properly.
- We look at the unit and the plant area during the survey.
- We sheet the area and the unit is isolated.
- Each section is cleaned of dust, debris and slime.
- We clean the coils and clear the tray and drain.
- The unit is closed up and handed back, with a report to follow.
Before we arrive
- Move anything stored near the system
- Tell us where we can park and unload
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system

FAQs for Tarpots
Can you work in Tarpots outside opening hours?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The work in Tarpots can fit around your hours. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with your opening times and we’ll plan around them.
Can a school’s ventilation in Tarpots be done out of term time?
Yes, holiday work suits schools best. The FSA’s register shows about 15 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Tarpots. Just call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with your term dates and we will plan around them.
What about areas you cannot get to?
We never leave them off the paperwork. You’ll know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. For many sites, photos and a few details are enough, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.
Do you clean the ductwork as well?
Yes. Ductwork is cleaned through access panels, and any sections we can’t reach are noted in the report, with new panels fitted where needed.
Do you repair air handling units?
Motors, belts, controls and coils that need repair are a job for your maintenance contractor. We clean the unit and report anything we see that needs attention.
Will the ventilation be off while you clean?
Yes. Cleaning needs the unit off and isolated, so we plan it for a time that suits the building.
What information do you need?
Just the basics: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. Then call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
Keeping the system healthy
A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:
- Flag stale or damp smells in the supply air
- Make sure condensate is draining away
- Stick to the filter change plan
- Keep the certificate and photo report with the plant records
The report shows each section of the unit before and after, and note any part we couldn’t get to. Any defects we noticed, like a leaking tray or damaged lining, are listed.
Change or clean filters on time. Overloaded filters let more dirt through to the coils and fan.
What staff can safely do
If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We will take a look and send you a fixed quote.
Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
Tarpots buildings and their air
Going by the FSA’s register, there are about 15 schools, colleges and universities and about 16 caring premises (care homes, nurseries and hospitals) serving food across Tarpots and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Classrooms, bedrooms and care spaces are often served by ducted air, and that ductwork collects dust over time. Tarpots is about 28 miles from central London, well within the area we cover across London and the South East. Visits are booked around your hours, evenings and weekends included. Tarpots’s nearest hospital, Chartwell Private Hospital, is about 3.8 miles east. Healthcare buildings depend on clean supply and extract ventilation, and the same applies to surgeries, clinics and care homes.
Wherever a school like The Appleton School has ducted ventilation, a half-term visit keeps the work out of lesson time.

What the work involves, part by part
Fans and fan sections
The fan section is cleaned with the unit switched off and isolated with your site team.
Drain trays
A tray that does not drain becomes a pool of stagnant water in the airstream. We clean it and note if the slope or the drain needs attention.
