AHU cleaning in Much Hadham

Think of an AHU clean as a full check-up for the ventilation. Every section is opened, cleaned and photographed, so the report shows exactly what was done. If you have dust built up on fan impellers and units that have only ever had filter changes, we can put it right, from filter sections, dampers and louvres and heating and cooling coils onwards.

In a village or hamlet like Much Hadham, few buildings have mechanical ventilation, but where it’s fitted, it needs the same inspection and cleaning as anywhere.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.

Your questions about AHU cleaning in Much Hadham

Do you work in villages like Much Hadham?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Much Hadham is covered. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Can ventilation in schools around Much Hadham be cleaned out of term?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. The FSA’s register shows about 2 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Much Hadham. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

What’s TR19?

BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not law, but it’s the benchmark.

How much does AHU cleaning cost?

Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. To get one, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, opening hours and a few photos.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line for anything that can’t wait until a planned visit. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

All kinds of commercial and public premises: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. We fit the work around how the site operates.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Some photos and a quick description of the system plus the address and your hours. If we need more, we’ll ask.

What about areas you cannot get to?

The report shows them clearly. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, which we can install.

Keeping the system healthy

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Clear leaves and litter away from the intake
  • Keep inspection doors on the unit in good order
  • Note any water around the unit or leaks below it
  • Store the TR19 paperwork where auditors can find it

The ducts served by the unit may need attention too. A clean unit feeding dirty ducts only solves half the problem, and we can survey both.

Have the unit inspected regularly, in line with the risk-based approach of TR19® Air instead of leaving it to guesswork.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements and we will come back with a fixed quote.

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and photos, so each one has its own record.

How the visit works

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before any work starts, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes half a day to a full day per unit, with large plant planned over several shifts. Photos of the system and how to reach it help us plan a visit to Much Hadham.

  1. We survey the unit from pictures or on site and agree what’s included.
  2. The unit is shut down with your site team and the area protected.
  3. We clean or change the filters as agreed, then clean the coils, fan and internal panels.
  4. We clean out the drain tray and make sure it drains.
  5. We close up the unit and send the certificate and before and after photos.

How to prepare

  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need

Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.

Leave it or put it right?

Tenants, auditors and owners may want proof that the air handling plant is kept clean. A TR19® certificate and photo report give you that, ready to show anyone who asks. With notice, the visit to Much Hadham can be fitted around your bookings and events.

You won’t find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email, and we will talk you through it.

Signs you need AHU cleaning in Much Hadham

An AHU’s intake draws in outdoor air and everything in it: dust, pollen, leaves and debris. Most of it lands at the intake and the first stage of filters, and the finer material travels on.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • Plant that needs cleaning after a refit
  • Dust built up on fan impellers
  • Stale or musty smells from the ventilation
  • Leaves and litter drawn into the unit

Wherever a school like St Andrew's CofE Primary School and Nursery has ducted ventilation, a half-term visit keeps the work out of lesson time.

Before booking anyone

  • Whether a survey comes first
  • When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
  • Whether they recommend a next date

When it’s something else

Not every problem is solved by AHU cleaning, and we will tell you before any work starts. It will not put right:

  • Leaking heating or cooling coils
  • A system that is undersized for the building
  • Ductwork downstream of the unit, which is a separate clean

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly.
