AHU cleaning in Hogpits Bottom

AHU cleaning in Hogpits Bottom, done properly

An air handling unit is the heart of a building’s ventilation: air is pulled in, filtered, conditioned and sent out through the ducts. Whatever builds up inside it travels with that air, which is why we clean the unit itself, not just the ducts. Typical jobs include dust-coated heating and cooling coils and odours coming through the supply air, across supply and extract fans, filter sections and drain trays.

Somewhere as small as Hogpits Bottom, ducted ventilation is normally limited to a school, a care home, a surgery or a converted business building, wherever there is one, but those that do need it inspected and cleaned like any other.

We have been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

What happens if it’s left?

Dirty coils and fans make the unit strain to move the same air. That means more wear on the motor and rooms that feel less fresh, and a clean on your terms beats a breakdown on nobody’s. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all make a difference.

FAQs for Hogpits Bottom

Can ventilation in schools around Hogpits Bottom be cleaned out of term?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. Food Standards Agency records list about 3 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Hogpits Bottom. You can phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the dates the site is empty.

Can you work in Hogpits Bottom outside opening hours?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. Your customers, staff or residents in Hogpits Bottom needn’t be disturbed. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

How do you protect the area?

Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before work begins, and waste is contained as we go. At the end, the area is cleaned down.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together on one programme. Each site gets its own report and pictures.

Is there a report after cleaning?

Yes. You get a TR19® certificate plus before and after photos. Keep them in the maintenance log.

Do you need to switch the unit off?

Yes. We cannot clean a running unit, so it’s switched off and made safe first. We agree the timing with your site team.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, fully. CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation sit alongside it, for sites that check contractor safety.

Is Hogpits Bottom in your area?

Yes. We cover Hogpits Bottom and the rest of Hertfordshire, as part of our work across South East England and London. To book, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.

Aftercare tips

Aftercare is simple, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Store the TR19 paperwork where auditors can find it
  • Clear leaves and litter away from the intake
  • Report stiff or damaged access doors
  • Make sure condensate is draining away

The report suggests a date for the next inspection or clean, based on what we found. TR19® Air is risk-based, so the interval depends on the unit and how the building is used.

Check drain trays and condensate drains during routine maintenance. A drain that’s cleared early never gets to the slime stage.

What AHU cleaning can’t fix

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Ventilation that was badly designed in the first place
  • The supply and extract ducts, quoted separately
  • Controls and BMS settings that run the unit

If you’re not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What the work covers

  • Filter sections
  • Heating and cooling coils
  • Drain trays
  • Supply and extract fans
  • Dampers and louvres
  • Internal panels

What we do, step by step

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before we start, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes a single shift for a typical unit, longer for large or heavily soiled ones. Seeing the system in pictures first means the trip to Hogpits Bottom can be planned properly.

  1. We look at the unit and the plant area during the survey.
  2. We sheet the area and the unit is isolated.
  3. Dirt and debris are removed from each section.
  4. Coils and trays are cleaned and the condensate drain cleared.
  5. We close every panel, hand the unit back and send the report and certificate.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions

How to get a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Units outside are exposed to weather and windblown debris. The intake section gets particular attention.

Common problems we fix in Hogpits Bottom

An AHU’s intake draws in outdoor air and everything in it: dust, pollen, leaves and debris. The intake section and first filters take the brunt, and some travels further into the unit.

What we’re most often called out for:

  • Filters that are clogged or overdue
  • Units needing a clean before a new tenant or handover
  • Blocked condensate drains and slimy trays
  • Odours coming through the supply air

Ventilation work in and around Hogpits Bottom is risk-based: inspect, then clean what needs it.
