AHU cleaning in Hill Grove, done properly
Heating and cooling coils trap dust that gets past the filters. A coated coil restricts airflow and makes the unit work harder. Coils are cleaned carefully, with methods chosen so the fins aren’t flattened. The work covers filter sections, internal panels and supply and extract fans, and the jobs we see most are leaves and litter drawn into the unit and air handling units due a clean after building work.
For a building in or near Hill Grove, access is agreed in advance and the visit is planned around the journey, and the ventilation is inspected, cleaned and recorded the same as anywhere.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

Why act early in Hill Grove
A clean unit feeds cleaner air into the ductwork, so the whole system stays cleaner for longer. It also means the next inspection has less to find. Rural sites can’t always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.
One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before work begins.

How the job changes from site to site
Fans and fan sections
The fan moves all of the unit’s air, so dirt on it gets spread around. The impeller, its housing and the fan chamber are cleaned.
Drain trays
Older trays can corrode and start leaking. We record their condition with pictures so you can decide on any repairs.
What we are called out for in Hill Grove
Planned maintenance often covers belts, motors and filters but not cleaning. So a unit can be well maintained and still dirty.
Common reasons sites call us are:
- Odours coming through the supply air
- Leaves and litter drawn into the unit
- Air handling units never cleaned inside
- Drain trays holding standing water
Classrooms and halls at schools such as Swanmore Church of England Aided Primary School are easiest to work in when pupils are away.
Questions to ask before booking
- What hours they’ll be on site
- Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
- Whether the price is fixed
- How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
The process
The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with photos. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes a single shift for a typical unit, longer for large or heavily soiled ones. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Hill Grove, let us know and we’ll plan around it.
- We survey the unit from pictures or on site and agree what’s included.
- With your site team, the unit is switched off and isolated, then the area around it protected.
- Filters are dealt with as agreed, and the coils, fan and casing cleaned.
- We clean out the drain tray and make sure it drains.
- We close up the unit and send the certificate and before and after pictures.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down

Hill Grove: your questions answered
Can you clean school ventilation in Hill Grove during the holidays?
Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. Around Hill Grove, the Food Standards Agency lists about 6 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Just ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with your term dates and we’ll plan around them.
Is Hill Grove within the area you cover?
Yes. Hill Grove is within the area we cover across London and the South East. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.
How much notice do you need?
The more notice, the better, particularly for night and weekend visits. Quotes typically come back within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.
Will you repair the fan or motor?
Motors, belts, controls and coils that need repair are a job for your maintenance contractor. We clean the unit and report anything we see that needs attention.
Can you quote from photos?
Yes, for many jobs. Send a few wide photos plus close-ups of panels, filters or grilles, and we typically come back within one working day. If pictures aren’t enough, we’ll survey first.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7, for problems that cannot wait. Call us any time and explain what’s happened.
Do you need to switch the unit off?
Yes. We can’t clean a running unit, so it’s switched off and made safe first. We agree the timing with your site team.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes, every time. We diagnose before we treat: the survey tells us what the system needs and how to reach it, and the quote is based on that.
What affects the cost of AHU cleaning
A fixed price needs a few facts first. We look at:
- Travel, parking and unloading
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- The size of the system
- A single visit or a regular plan
Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.
Helping us quote
We can often survey from photos. Try to include:
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. We normally come back within one working day.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.
