AHU cleaning near Cock Street

Common questions in Cock Street

Is Cock Street in your area for AHU cleaning?

Yes, we work in Cock Street and the places around it. Just call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with a few details of the site.

Do you work overnight in Cock Street?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The site is handed back ready to open. Let us know the hours you are closed and we will book within them.

Does the AHU have to be shut down for cleaning?

Yes. Cleaning needs the unit off and isolated, and we time the work to suit the site.

Can you quote from photos?

Yes, where the photos show enough. If not, a site survey comes first, and the quote follows that.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes. If something urgent happens, like a fan failing or damage after a fire, call our 24/7 line and we’ll talk you through the next steps.

How much does AHU cleaning cost?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how big it is, what state it’s in, how we reach it and the working hours. We fix the price before any work starts.

What’s included in an AHU clean?

All the internal parts the air touches, from the intake and filters through the coils and fan to the outlet. You get a photo report showing each part before and after.

Are you accredited?

We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

About our AHU cleaning in Cock Street

A cooling coil drips condensate into a tray that should drain away. If the outlet blocks, standing water and slime build up, right in the path of the air going into the building. Clearing and cleaning the tray is central to every AHU clean. The work covers supply and extract fans, filter sections and heating and cooling coils, and the jobs we see most are air handling units with blocked filters and units that have only ever had filter changes.

Somewhere as small as Cock Street, ducted ventilation is typically limited to a school, a care home, a surgery or a converted business building, wherever there is one, but those that do need it inspected and cleaned like any other.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

What staff can safely do

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that is where we come in.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

How the visit works

The first job on site is protection: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. Then we make the system safe and start. It takes anything from half a day for one small unit to several shifts for a plant room full of them, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. In a small place like Cock Street, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.

  1. The survey covers the unit, its access and how it can be shut down.
  2. We sheet the area and the unit is isolated.
  3. Dirt and debris are removed from each section.
  4. We clean the coils and clear the tray and drain.
  5. The unit is closed up and handed back, with a report to follow.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.

  • The supply and extract ducts, quoted separately

How we price AHU cleaning

There’s no set price list, because sites vary so much. What we look at:

  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • How big the system is
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing

You will not find a price list here, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.

What we need to know

Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Useful things to send:

  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us.

What the work involves, part by part

Rooftop and plant room units

Units on roofs and in plant rooms can be awkward to reach. We plan safe access as part of the survey, before we quote.

Heating and cooling coils

Dirt on a coil slows the air and makes it harder for the coil to heat or cool. A clean gets air moving through the coil properly again.

Common problems we fix in Cock Street

Filters catch most of the dust, but not all of it. What gets through settles on coils, fans and the inside of the casing, a little more each month.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Leaves and litter drawn into the unit
  • Dust-coated heating and cooling coils
  • Plant that needs cleaning after a refit
  • Units that have only ever had filter changes

Healthcare ventilation, from large hospitals like Severalls Hospital (about 5.3 miles south) to small clinics, depends on clean filters, coils and ducts.

Before booking anyone

  • Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
  • What hours they’ll be on site
  • What records you will receive afterwards

Keeping the system healthy

How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Plan the next inspection before the last report gets filed away
  • Report water on the plant room floor
  • Check the drain tray is emptying during routine visits
  • Do not ignore odours coming through the grilles

When we’ve closed the unit up, it can be restarted with your site team. Keep an eye on the condensate drain over the next few days to make sure it stays clear.

Regular filter changes are the best protection an AHU has. Overloaded filters let more dirt through to the coils and fan.
