About our AHU cleaning in Aspenden

No two plant rooms are the same, whether it’s a compact unit in a ceiling void or a big unit on the roof. We look at the unit first, from pictures or a site visit, and send you a fixed quote before any cleaning starts. If you have leaves and litter drawn into the unit and units that have only ever had filter changes, we can put it right.

Work in a small place like Aspenden starts with agreeing access and timings.

We’ve been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

What we do, step by step

At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and the same goes into the written report. All told, the work takes anything from half a day for one small unit to several shifts for a plant room full of them. A few photos of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Aspenden.

  1. First the unit is surveyed, from photos or a visit, and the scope agreed.
  2. With your site team, the unit is switched off and isolated, then the area around it protected.
  3. Filters are dealt with as agreed, and the coils, fan and casing cleaned.
  4. Drain trays are cleared and cleaned and the outlet checked.
  5. We close up the unit and send the certificate and before and after photos.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids

Getting a quote

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Advice

AHU cleaning in Aspenden: local notes

Food Standards Agency data includes about 5 schools, colleges and universities and about 5 caring premises (care homes, nurseries and hospitals) in and around Aspenden, up to about a mile and a half out. Multi-site and managed buildings

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

What staff can safely do

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Part by part

Internal casing and panels

Dust settles on every internal surface of the unit. We clean each section from intake to discharge.

Filters

Filters are the first line of defence in the unit. We check them, and clean or change them as agreed in the quote, and clean the filter housing.

Signs you need AHU cleaning in Aspenden

Filters that aren’t changed or cleaned on time clog up, which cuts the airflow and can let air slip round the filter. After that, the coils and fan collect what the filter should have caught.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • Dirty filters cutting the airflow
  • Condensate trays that will not empty
  • Plant that needs cleaning after a refit
  • Dust-coated heating and cooling coils

Wherever a school like Millfield First and Nursery School has ducted ventilation, a half-term visit keeps the work out of lesson time.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether a written report and pictures are included
  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them

FAQs for Aspenden

Do you work at weekends in Aspenden?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. That way a site in Aspenden does not have to lose a day’s trading. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Do you do school ventilation cleaning in Aspenden in the summer holidays?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. Food Standards Agency records list about 5 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Aspenden. Send us your term dates when you phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos, and we will fit the work in.

How much notice should we give?

For planned work, earlier is better, particularly if your next visit is nearly due. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

Where does the waste go?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, including grease, debris and dirty water. None of it is left on site.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, we’re fully insured. CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation sit alongside it for clients who vet their contractors.

What’s TR19?

It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Often, yes. With good photos, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Where we can’t see enough, we arrange a survey.

How often do AHUs need cleaning?

That’s set by inspection, in line with TR19® Air. Units in heavy use or in sensitive buildings may need attention more often.

What affects the quote in Aspenden

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends

What you pay depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.

What we need to know

There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:

  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • A few general shots of the system
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Any previous report or certificate

Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your photos and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before any work starts.

What happens if it’s left?

Cleaning a unit while it only has light dust is quick. Years of build-up make the job longer and harder, particularly where damp has made it stick. Somewhere as small as Aspenden, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before work begins.

What you get with us

  • A single point of contact for sites across the South East and London
