Leave it or put it right?
If people in a building in Aldington complain about stuffy or smelly air, the AHU is worth looking at. Cleaning it deals with the cause rather than the symptom. If the system at a site near Aldington fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.
One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before any work starts.

How we handle AHU cleaning in Aldington
No two plant rooms are the same, whether it’s a compact unit in a ceiling void or a big unit on the roof. Every job starts with a survey, from photos or on site, followed by a fixed quote before any cleaning starts. The work covers filter sections, dampers and louvres and internal panels, and common reasons people get in touch are odours coming through the supply air and fan sections that haven’t been cleaned in years.
For a building in or near Aldington, access is agreed in advance and the visit is planned around the journey, and the ventilation is inspected, cleaned and recorded the same as anywhere.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

Aldington: your questions answered
Do you offer AHU cleaning in Aldington?
Yes, we work in Aldington and the places around it. A fixed quote usually follows within one working day of the survey details.
Can you come to Aldington after we close?
Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. The site is handed back ready to open. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
Are you accredited?
BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We are fully insured and have been trading since 2009.
What do you need from me for a quote?
The site address, the type of premises and your opening hours, plus pictures of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.
Is there a report after cleaning?
Yes. Every clean comes with a TR19® certificate and a photo report. Keep them in the maintenance log.
How much does AHU cleaning cost?
Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. To get one, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and tell us about the site and its opening hours.
What is TR19?
BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.
Can you fix a faulty AHU?
We clean the unit and flag faults rather than repair them, with photos where it helps.
Keeping the system healthy
So the system stays in good health:
- Change filters on schedule and log each change
- Watch for drips or damp patches near the plant
- Keep inspection doors on the unit in good order
- File each AHU report in the maintenance log
You receive a TR19® certificate and a photo report after the clean. They belong in the plant or maintenance log.
Make sure access doors and panels on the unit open easily. Sections that are awkward to open are the ones that get skipped.
The process
Your trading hours come first. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we’re in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes one overnight shift for many single units, with bigger plant phased. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Aldington before we set off.
- We survey the unit from pictures or on site and agree what’s included.
- We arrange the shutdown with your staff and sheet the area.
- Filters are dealt with as agreed, and the coils, fan and casing cleaned.
- Drain trays are cleared and cleaned and the outlet checked.
- We close up the unit and send the certificate and before and after photos.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
- Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
- Let us know about parking and loading

Advice
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
What we’re called out for in Aldington
Cooling coils create condensation, and that water has to go somewhere. If the drain tray outlet blocks or the tray does not fall properly, water stands in it, and that is where slime and odours start.
What we are most often called out for:
- Coils clogged with dust and debris
- Filters that are clogged or overdue
- Debris and leaves in the fresh air intake
- Units that have only ever had filter changes
Wherever a school like Aldington Primary School has ducted ventilation, a half-term visit keeps the work out of lesson time.
What to look for in a quote
- What insurance they carry
- Whether the figure could change on the day
- What records you will receive afterwards
- What hours they’ll be on site
Part by part
Fans and fan sections
Build-up on fan blades can upset the balance and add wear. A clean fan runs more smoothly.
Filters
Every AHU relies on its filters to catch dust before it reaches the coils. As part of the clean, filters are checked and cleaned or replaced as agreed, and clean the filter housing.
